ABOUT



Debbie is a sustainably minded Textile Designer-Maker with a bold approach to creating unique, individual textiles using traditional techniques with contemporary values. Colour and texture are used in her work to create visually exciting textiles, which are both fresh and striking.


  
Debbie studied Fashion and Textile’s at Central St Martins School of Art.
Based in London, Debbie worked as a freelance Woven Textile Designer and sold her handwoven items through private sales, international trade fairs, exhibitions and galleries.

Debbie then went on to train as a Secondary School teacher at the University of London, she taught Art and Design and Textiles in Hackney, London for 10 years before relocating to Cornwall. During this period she was awarded winner of the ‘Teacher Project’ award by The University of the Arts London, which was presented to her by the Major of London and the Installation Artist Cornelia Parker.

  

After relocating to Cornwall, Debbie has continued her textile work and is now a member of The Cornwall Craft Association and sells her textile items through private sales and galleries. She has been featured in Period Living, MyCornwall, Western Morning News and Workbox Magazine. Recently Debbie was featured in Make: Cornwall a book celebrating Southwest craft people.

Debbie has photographed and sketched the Cornish coastline and the gardens around Cornwall and has represented them in her handwoven tapestries and handwoven textiles.

In addition to her own practice she delivers Weaving and Teaching Workshops from her weaving studio and has produced a range of looms to help make weaving accessible to everyone.
