Cornish Coastline

Debbie Rudolph is a Falmouth-based weaver whose studio practice explores the intimate connection between the land and the loom. A strong advocate for sustainable craftsmanship, Debbie blends traditional techniques with a modern commitment to environmental responsibility.

Through her tapestries, Debbie aims to connect viewers with the natural world.

Living in Cornwall, she draws constant inspiration from the surrounding seascapes and rugged coastlines. Her creative process often begins during daily walks with her two dogs, where she stops to sketch or photograph views that are later enlarged and translated into woven form. This deep connection to place forms the backbone of her sustainable approach.

Debbie uses the natural rhythm of weaving—its grid and lines to build her images, carefully separating the foreground, centre, and background to create depth. She finds particular joy in experimenting with colour to reflect the light and movement of the beach, where sand is often "blown into waves of valleys and shallow pools" that mirror the surrounding sea and foliage.
This artistic vision is realised through a deep respect for heritage crafts and circularity. She uses Deadstock Yarn to minimise waste and the environmental impact. Debbie primarily incorporates materials that would otherwise be discarded into her work.
